Human aging
Prof. Dr. Frank Madeo conducts research in the field of cell biology. His work focuses on cell aging, cell renewal and cell death in order to better understand the how and why of human aging and to find ways and strategies to stay healthy as long as possible.

Immune system
Katja Simon, Ph.D. conducts research at Oxford University in the area of autophagy in the immune system. With her team, she wants to find out how long-lived immune cells use the process of self-digestion to keep renewing themselves.

Cognitive functions
Prof. Dr. Stephan Sigrist, together with Prof. Dr. Frank Madeo, studied memory loss in flies to gain insights into age-related memory decline in the human brain. They investigated what influence the purification of clumped proteins in the brain has on the memory performance of flies.
Our life expectancy has steadily increased in recent decades due to advances in medicine and society. Cell research, in particular the study of spermidine, has become a major focus and is significantly advanced at the University of Graz.
